Dreams.-On the rare occasions when our dreams succeed and achieve perfection-most dreams are bungled- they are symbolic chains of scenes and images in place of a narrative poetic language; they circumscribe our experiences or expectations or situations with such poetic boldness and decisiveness that in the morning we are always amazed at ourselves when we remember our dreams. We use up too much artistry in our dreams-and therefore often are impoverished during the day.

Re: Nietzsche on Dreams...
Fri, April 2, 2004 - 10:16 AMI love this....

My daughter is ten.
Her favourite movie right now is Waking life.
I really have no clue of what level she is grasping the message??
But I'm glad she is intrigued by the question.....of where the dream ends and reality begins.....or whether the division even exits. -

-We have no dreams at all or interesting ones. We should learn to be awake the same way- not at all or in an interesting manner.

Re: Nietzsche on Dreams...
Tue, April 18, 2006 - 9:39 PMI disagree that we are impoverished during the day...or that artistry is wasted in dreamtime. Many exceptional artisians create in dreamtime and transcribe in daytime, that is, many beautiful creations are borne of dreamtime! Then again I have a few issues with some of Nietzche's philosophies anyway...
