Dreaming things that haven't happened...yet

It's so weird to wake up from an intensely visual dream... The sensation I feel is extremely disorienting. I feel like I've walked through a wall sometimes, or a thin, but completely opaque silvery surface (like a mirror or photograph). The only difference is that the imagined reality often looks identical to the physical waking world. Sometimes I dream about that things I'm going to do and wake up only to realize it hasn't happened yet. For instance, I was imagining that I would install a cat door for my friend's cat. Of course, I know that this will get done eventually, but to see it functional in my dream and then to wake up from that reality, is extremely frustrating. I'm sure that this is one of the reasons I don't recall most of my dreams. If dreaming is just intense astral travel, then of course I would get bored and frustrated doing everything over and over again. Have you ever dreamed about intesely repetitive tasks as you are going to sleep after having done those things all day? It's kind of like that only in reverse.

I've kept dream journals since I was a teenager back in the 60s. I commonly dream things that haven't happened yet - and even have dreamed things as they happen! One example is about 20 years ago, while pregnant with my daughter - I drempt several people I didn't want to see were on the road driving to visit me. In my dream I told myself, oh, its just a dream, don't be upset - then I woke to knocking on the door - and there they were! The people I drempt of driving to visit me!
26 years ago I drempt my one of my children - I saw his smiling face and he said "Hi! I'm your kid!" and this was the night he was conceived! One week before I missed my cycle, I drempt I was pregnant, saw my son again - and now he is 25 years old.
21 years ago I drempt I conceived my daughter. In my dream, I was pregnant, I pulled my baby out from under my shirt and saw my daughter - I knew she wasn't "cooked" enough - so I put her back into my womb by placing her under my shirt again - then (still dreamtime) went into labor and gave birth. This was May 1, 1985. Later, I conceived my daughter. Her due date was April 1, 1986. Due date came and went - no labor. I remembered my dream about baby not being fully cooked - so I refused induction of labor when I went past 42 weeks gestation time. I was pregnant for 10 months and 5 days when labor started on its own - and my beautiful, slightly overcooked daughter was born at home, as were her 2 elder brothers.

I also sometimes dream events that haven't happened yet, and sometimes as they are happening, especially around important events such as illness, death & birth. I once dremt that my heavily pregnant cat gave birth to three kittens. I woke up to her purring as she gently nudged me awake. As she turned around i saw that she was very dilated, and thought 'My Gosh, she's about to give birth.' I hastily arose and followed her around the room - opening drawers, wardrobe etc to see where she would choose to lay. She ignored them all and went downstairs where i followed her to the kitchen. She went over to the laundry pile and there were two little kittens newly born on top of my sheets. 'Only two! i thought fully expecting the three i had seen. I lifted the edge of a sheet and there was the third kitten! I am sure she gave birth at the exact time i was dreaming the event, and came straight to find me!
